Let’s Fish, Y’all: Why Lake Guntersville is a Bass Fishing Paradise
If you enjoy fishing, there is one place that continues to draw anglers from all across the country, and that is Lake Guntersville! With 69,000 acres and over 900 miles of shoreline, grass flats, and quiet backwater coves, it is the kind of place where every cast feels like it could be the one. From tournament pros to weekend fishermen, everyone comes here for one reason… to catch fish. There are plenty of reasons to hit the water, but here are a few to get you started!
Fishing Hot Spots
Lake Guntersville may be big, but fishing here can be pretty simple once you know what to look for. Bridges are an easy place to start, especially ones with rocks and a little current. Back in the 2014 Bassmaster Classic, Randy Howell made a last-minute run to the Highway 69 causeway and caught the fish he needed to win, proving that bridges like this are prime spots for big bass. The real magic is the grass. Huge grass flats give bass a place to hide and feed, so check the edges or where the grass drops into deeper water. Areas like Browns Creek, Town Creek, and North Sauty Creek are also great spots, with calmer water. You also don’t need a boat to catch fish here. Some top bank-fishing spots in Guntersville include the Guntersville Dam, Guntersville causeways, and under the River Bridge. Kayaks are also a great way to sneak into smaller coves and the quiet backwaters.
